Rotoroa Island, Hauraki Gulf

  • 18 Mar 2018
  • 8:45 AM
  • Pier 4, 119 Quay Street, Downtown Ferry Terminal
This island was closed to the public for over a hundred years when it was an addiction-treatment centre. Interesting buildings still stand and there’s a fascinating small museum with island history. The club last went to Rotoroa Island one winter a few years ago, so this is the summer trip. Bring your camera for stunning views of the island sanctuary, home to some rare NZ native birds. Bring a swimsuit, ample food and water, and a change of warm clothing.

There’s usually some free parking on a Sunday in the streets in and around Viaduct Harbour Ave and Pakenham Street. Otherwise it’s downtown parking buildings.
