Awhitu Regional Park, South Auckland

Our first stop will be right at the end of the Awhitu Peninsula. We’ll take the short walk from the carpark up to the lighthouse and onto the lookout. There are dramatic views from this high spot above the cliffs on the South Manukau Heads. We’ll look across to the steep bush-clad Waitakere Ranges and Whatipu sandbar.

Then we drive to the eastern side of the Awhitu Peninsula to the regional park. We’ll do all the tracks there, covering the harbour beaches, bush and wetland areas.

If time allows, we may head over to the west coast and visit the wild sand formations at Hamilton’s Gap.
