Shakespear Regional Park is an open sanctuary located at the tip of the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, north of Auckland. As well as the sweeping views, this predator-free sanctuary is home to a number of native birds and reptiles. Doing things a bit differently to usual, we'll walk a track on the western side of the park that the club hasn't done before and then head to join in the tree planting at 10am - 1pm. Last time we did tree planting here, we had a massive club turnout, joining in a huge group of the public, of which everyone managed to plant 4k of trees in less than 3 hours!!! We're usually planting in a gully, so less exposed to the elements. Help to give back in a park we love tramping in and around. The planting is easy, fun and very social. (Don't forget a raincoat, in case we do have a bit of rain). They provide sausages and refreshments when we're finished! Please ensure that your footwear and gear is completely clean. They'll probably have a boot station for us again too. https://ourauckland.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/articles/events/2019/07/shakespear-regional-park-planting-day/
This tramp includes a mixture of coastal, farm and bushwalking within and around this park after planting.
