Tramping is particularly spectacular throughout the Karangahake Gorge that runs between Coromandel and the Kaimai Ranges. This is a favourite area for the Club. You will see a huge amount of gold-mining history, including the historic old machinery now rusting away. We will have options for shorter, medium and fast groups, including for some groups going up and over 544 metre Mt Karangahake, with extensive 360 degree views to both coastlines! Including a few twists on the usual classic tramps we do through this area, including a couple of different loop options to see two waterfalls, one very spectacular cascading waterfall. We will still have the classic tramps that we all love so much. Please ensure you bring a headlight or good torch as you will need one walking through the hand built one kilometer tunnel and the Windows Walk. There are Glow Worms through some of the tunnels. There should be time for a refreshing swim or possibly two in the stunning Ohinemuri River and Owharoa Falls or hot drinks at the end of the tramp at the café across from the car park. Don't forget your torch, camera, camera phone and swimming gear and a light weight towel (not a heavy full sized bath towel). https://www.doc.govt.nz/globalassets/documents/parks-and-recreation/tracks-and-walks/waikato/karangahake-gorge-brochure.pdf ** For pickups from Greenlane pickup point please register via the site or contact the organiser ** Please bring plenty of water as it's bound to be hot. *** Please ensure your gear is fully scrubbed and cleaned ready for the day and bring a change of footwear and bag for afterwards on the bus trip back, to help protect and prevent Kauri Dieback.
