Tiritiri Matangi Island, Open Sanctuary - Saturday 17th April 2021 Now we have a better idea of the weather for the weekend, we will have two days of tramping this weekend, without using the club bus, that is off doing the "club away tramping trip". Maybe use this as a training weekend for doing an away, bring your full multi-day away pack weight. Today's trip will be an outer loop around the island with hills. IMPORTANT NOTE: PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE FACE MASKS FOR THE FERRY CROSSING THERE & BACK, AS IT A REQUIREMENT BY LAW CURRENTLY. Join us for a stunning day exploring all the tracks and hopefully spotting many endangered and rare birds like Kokako, Takahe, Bellbird, Kereru, Hihi, Saddleback, Fern Birds and many more on this amazing bird "Treasure Island", Sanctuary island in the Hauraki Maritime Park. Easy scenic walking amongst many native birds, either a slightly shorter loop or a longer loop around the island. Both very doable inside the day and with time to swim and to look around the visitors centre with spectacular views along the way The island has had a huge number of native trees planted over the decades with an interesting story (Tiritirimatangi.org.nz/history). * Bring swim wear as we may swim afterwards on the Whangaparaoa Pensinsula, and of course a swim on the island too, if we have time for those keen. * Only come out with us if you are well * You are welcome to use your face mask and hand sanitiser. * There will be a COVID-19 QR code available for scanning. * If you have arrived from overseas in the last month, please stay away. *** PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR GEAR IS ALL ABSOLUTELY CLEAN, SO WE AREN'T TRANSFERRING ANYTHING UNWANTED TO THE ISLAND!!! Please note: Fullers have changed their pricing structure to $82, the same as Downtown departure (9am), so trampers may wish to take the Downtown option for better value.
