Waikato region mini weekend
Mt Maungataturi, Mt Pukeatua, Sanctuary Southern Enclosure, Te Tapui Loop track.
Come join us for a mini weekend with tracks to suit your fitness and comfortable winter chalet accommodation in the Waikato. Climb up to three mountain peaks, enjoy spectacular vistas, and check out the vibrant pest-free ancient forest.
Limited to 20 current financial trampers (minimum of 12) at $135 per person. Confirm your booking now with a deposit of $35.
Itinerary:
• Friday 13 August : Depart Como Street, Takapuna at 6.30pm in club bus travelling approximately 2hrs 6 mins to Mighty River Domain, Lake Karapiro chalets for two nights of comfortable winter accommodation. Chalets have crockery, cutlery and utensils, oven, fridge, jug and toaster in shared kitchen
• Saturday: Depart for the day 8.30am and arrive at Manu Tioriori visitor centre at approximately 9am.
Party A: Climb Mt Pukeatua and Mt Maungataturi (6-8 hours return). A higher level of fitness required with steep muddy climbs and descents.
Party B: Climb Mt Pukeatua (3 hours return). A medium level of fitness required. Spectacular views from rocky vantage points. Additionally, Southern enclosure (Te Tūī a Tāne) option also available.
Party C: Enjoy 5 kms of walking trails at your leisure exploring an ancient vibrant pest-free forest alive with rare birds, insects and fish in the Southern enclosure (Te Tūī a Tāne).
All groups return to chalets for a relaxed social evening.
Sunday: depart at 9am in club bus and drive 46 mins to commence Te Tapui loop track through bush and to the summit with a look out tower and views to Kaimai Ranges and Firth of Thames (4 kms, 3–4-hour medium tramping). Slower pace option for 2-3 hours tramping will be available. All enjoy a late lunch before leaving at 3pm for approximately 2 hrs 26 mins travel to Auckland. Arrive in Como Street,Takapuna before 6pm.
Southern enclosure entrance fee an optional extra $25 per adult, $20 per senior is payable on entry.
Final trip fee payment required by 23 July.
