WINTER OPEN DAY – Devonport Loop
No online registration required for the Open Day. Non members please phone the organiser.
Explore stunning coastal headlands, native bush and amazing views of the Hauraki Gulf.
Whether you are an experienced tramper or a novice looking to join a friendly, very well-established tramping club with a huge variety of ages, this is the day for you!
We will start promptly at 9.30am to catch the low tide at 11am, so please be there at 9.15am to get registered. We will head north towards Hauraki along the foreshore and then cross over to the other side of the peninsula to cover tracks including the recently re-opened Mary Barrett Glade walkway. Leaving the best to last, we will go up and over both Mt Victoria and North Head including some of the historic tunnels with amazing views of Rangitoto and the Hauraki Gulf. We will head back to Bath Street Reserve via Cheltenham Beach for a relaxed BBQ (and a swim for the brave)! Please BYO favourite BBQ items and refreshments, although the club will provide some sausages, bread and sauces.
Please note the foreshore may be slippery and uneven. Expect to walk approximately 4 hours on partially uneven terrain. Comfortable trail shoes or running shoes are okay as long as you don’t mind them getting dirty.
Please bring: Day pack, 1-2L of water, snacks, torch for the tunnels, rain jacket and swimming gear for anyone keen for a winter swim.
Cost: FREE (no bus today)!
