Due to track closures to protect our iconic Kauri trees, it's been 4 years since North Shore Tramping Club has been able to tread the tracks along from the entrance to the Pararaha Track and Valley utlising Muir and Gibbons Tracks. We'll only have two groups for this trip, a Medium approximately 21kms, 597 metres and a Distance party 22kms, 700 metres, so newbies, if you're not quite fit and a strong tramper and not tramped with the club before, this one won't be for you (keep an eye out for the next tramp), due to the steep climb up Muir and the walk back along the sand to Karekare Beach. Low tide is approx 7.21am, King tide. The Distance Party will have an added adventure to the large cave & maybe up to the lookout depending on time.
We'll endevour to get everyone to the very spectacular Karekare Waterfall too! If there's been any rain, the back wash wind created by the water can be incredible!
This is a very spectacular area of the Waitakere Ranges that many club members may not have been through, with amazing wetlands that have special protection.
Please ensure you have plenty of water as the weather is getting quite warm and the walk along the sand is very exposed.
PLEASE ENSURE YOUR GEAR IS CLEAN BEFORE (footwear, poles, bags, anything that might come into contact with the ground) TO PROTECT THE KAURI AND OTHER SPECIES AND HAVE CLEAN FOOTWEAR FOR AFTER THE TRAMP AND THOROUGHLY CLEAN YOUR GEAR WHEN YOU GET HOME!!! AND A CHANGE OF CLEAN FOOTWEAR FOR AFTER PLEASE!
If anyone is meeting us there, the bus will be heading down to our start point Karekare Beach via LONE KAURI RD, due to the very low Pohutukawa the main way down.
Please ensure where you're parking is suitable for a Saturday.
