Still some spaces available for you to join us for a fun mid-winter getaway and pot-luck dinner

Duration: 2 days: Saturday 8th July and returning Sunday 9th July 

Departing from Como Street, Takapuna at 8:00am on Saturday. We will journey northward for 2.5 to 3 hours to Tangihua Lodge nestled in the Tangihua Forest near Whangarei, arriving around midday. After offloading and settling into the lodge we will embark on one or more of several walks before enjoying a potluck dinner.  The lodge includes a fully equipped kitchen, including crockery and cutlery.

Staying at the spacious, well equipped Tangihua Lions Lodge. There are a variety of activities available to suit everyone from people wanting to enjoy a leisurely weekend away to others who would like to do something more energetic .

  • The Kauri Grove walk (1 ½ hrs)
  • The Tumanako loop track (2 hrs)
  • Nature Walk
  • Day tramp up to the Horokaha Transmitter tower. (~ 4 1/2 hrs)
  • Kauri Dam Walk

(ii)   Tangihua Fit Party Day Trip Adventure  
For those fit and experienced trampers keen for a classic back-country tramp on the Saturday, Kevin will take a group from the Tangihua Lions Lodge up the Te Haua Uru Track to the junction of the Tangihua Main Ridge track and the Northern Tangihua track. From there we will follow the Tangihua Main Ridge track across to the Horokaka Receiver station. (3 hrs).  We will then return via the Horokaka Track to Tangihua Lions Lodge (1 1/2hrs)
You will need to take plenty of water and good warm clothing as the ridges can be very exposed.

Tangihua Lodge has four bunk rooms, a central dining - lounge overlooking extensive decks, one completely covered , a large kitchen and storage facilities, his and hers ablution areas with 4 showers and 4 toilets each. There is a disabled bathroom

The excellent facilities include a sterilizer, ovens and stove top plus a large hot plate and fridge – freezer.

All cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery are provided.

Bunk rooms - On each side of the main dining area there is one five and one twenty bed bunk room, sleeping a total of 50 people.

Details: Leaving at 8am from Como Street, we head North from Auckland up State Hwy 1 turning off at Mangapai Rd, South of Whangarei. Then onto Tangihua Lions Lodge - Omana Rd (~2 1/2hrs).

  • Please register by 18th June to secure your place
  • A deposit of $35 is required to be paid by 18th June
  • Final payment is due by 30th June 2023

Cost: $80 (includes accommodation overnight at Tangihua Lions Lodge).

N.B: Places on this Trip are limited as Tangihua Lodge requires pre- payment booking

  • We need minimum numbers for the trip to proceed - at least 12 overall.
