North Shore Tramping Club
Daly’s Clearing Hut Northern Kaimai
Topo map BC35
We will have two drivers for this one, so we can have one party do it in the reverse direction.
Starting from the end of Franklin Road we will take the tourist route along the old Waitawheta Tramway for a short distance before taking a sidetrack on our right that will take us up to Daly’s Clearing hut for a look around. This hut is maintained by the Manukau Tramping Club under the Kaimai Ridgeway Volunteer project and is a very popular hut for budding trampers who want to experience their first overnight in a hut.
From the hut head West up to the junction of the Mangakino Pack track and head North and descend to the picturesque Waitawheta River crossing over the river and onto Dickeys Flat for the Bus. (Expect about 5 hours tramping & wet feet crossing the river).
Please remember to bring a change of clean footwear to wear in the bus for the return trip & a bag for your dirty footwear)
Cost: $25.00 members, $30 non-members
