Part 2 of our Mahurangi trips will begin at Martins Bay where we head South along the peninsular to Big Bay on the Eastern side of the peninsular, this is a Regional Park that is land locked by private land and they say, is only accessible by boat only, hence it is a seldom visited by the public. Along the way will have views of Motuketekete Island, Moturekreka Island, Motuora Island, and Te Haupa Island, (Saddle Island). It is from Big Bay we will have a short but very steep climb over to the Western side to Lagoon Bay, a tidal area that was once farmed, with views over to Mahurangi West Regional Park. From there we retrace our footsteps back to the bus.
You can expect about 16 to 18 kilometers, some bouldering, rocks that can be slippery at times, soft sand, mud, and wet feet. You will need to be of good medium fitness and agile for this one!
Bring plenty of water & Good footwear!
Please ensure you have a change of footwear for the bus journey home.
