Today's trip will be an outer loop around the island with hills.   We may have a scaled back version if there are enough people for a second group.  We will be tramping approximately 4-5 hours & is
suitable for kids too!
Trail runners, running shoes or tramping boots

Advise booking your ferry ticket asap to avoid disappointment, as it's still high season.

Organiser:   Imogen
Phone:          0272898440   (all newbies no texts, please phone before 9pm)
                                                    (Financial members register online)
PLEASE NOTE, WE DO NOT HAVE OUR CLUB BUS TODAY, SO YOU MUST FIND YOUR OWN WAY TO THE FERRY.

***  Please note, the organiser will be boarding the ferry at Gulf Harbour, so we will all meet once we get off the ferry on the big concrete area, at the end of the wharf, for the mandatory bio-security briefing by the Park Ranger, before we set off on our tramp.

***  MASSEY STUDENTS, PLEASE PHONE THE ORGANISER TO REGISTER.  WE HAVE LIMITED SPACE IN ONE OF THE UTE'S TO DRIVE YOU TO THE FERRY AT GULF HARBOUR, WHANGAPARAOA.

Join us for a stunning day exploring all the tracks and hopefully spotting many endangered and rare native birds like Kokako, Takahe, Bellbird, Kereru, Hihi, Saddleback, Fern Birds and many more on this amazing bird "Treasure Island", Sanctuary island in the Hauraki Maritime Park, in the Auckland Harbour.

Very scenic walking amongst many native birds, either a slightly shorter loop or a longer loop around the island.  Both very doable inside the day and with time to swim and to look around the visitors centre with spectacular views along the way.  Bring your Eftpos card etc if you'd like to purchase a Tiri inspired clothing or momento's in the awesome island shop.

The island has had a huge number of native trees planted over the decades with an interesting story (Tiritirimatangi.org.nz/history), plus some truly ancient, magnificent, massive Pohutukawa (our Kiwi Christmas tree).

*  Bring swim wear as we may swim afterwards on the Whangaparaoa Pensinsula, and of course a swim on the island too, if we have time for those keen for an Autumn swim.

Please ensure you have plenty of food and water as the island shop doesn't sell food items, just a few cold drinks and momentos.

***   PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOUR GEAR IS ALL ABSOLUTELY CLEAN, SO WE AREN'T TRANSFERRING ANYTHING UNWANTED TO THE ISLAND!!!   INFO ON BIO-SECURITY HERE:
https://www.doc.govt.nz/parks-and-recreation/know-before-you-go/visiting-pest-free-islands/biosecurity-checklist/

***  Ferry departure from downtown Auckland or Gulf Harbour, Whangaparaoa (it makes no difference to cost which stop you board).
