For those that aren't able to join us for Tiritiri Matangi Island on Sunday, we will do an approximately 3-4 hour walk tomorrow. We will have some bits of road walking to connect the forest escarpment and bush tracks between Albany and Torbay. The Glenvar tracks in particular give you a feeling of being completely in the bush, with impressively large Kahikatea's with a towering canopy about 30-50 metres above you and if we're lucky there might be some red and the more rare White Rata in flower along the way. There's one very large old Puriri in particular that's quite special too. These are really amazing tracks, not the 3 lane highways that some tracks are now. Some nice sea views along the way too!! Please note, that there will be some steep short sharp climbs to wake up your muscles. Some of the tracks may have the odd slippery bit if there's any rain overnight. Please ensure you have plenty of food and water. Although we are meeting 50 metres from a petrol station and cafe, so you may be able to buy what you need there. Running shoes, trail runners will be most suitable. Tramping boots will be quite heavy on the pavement connecting sections. PLEASE ENSURE THAT ALL YOUR GEAR IS VERY CLEAR AS WE ARE ENTERING AREA'S WITH OUR AMAZING KAURI TREES, THAT ARE EFFECTED BY KAURI DIEBACK DISEASE.
