This walk forms part of the Te Araroa trail.
Starting at J Tolhopf Road, we’ll head into the bushline and the Dunns Bush Ridge track, (a Queen Elizabeth II National Trust reserve, passing the “Sugarloaf” rock formation with beautiful views across the valley and out to thcoast. The joins a farm track leaving it to the fenceline descending steeply to Remiger Road for approx. 1km to the intersection with Ahuroa Road. The bridge was destroyed in the flooding and storms in January 2023, however there’s now an alternative crossing to connecting to the original track. Continuing along the track we overlook lovely views of the Puhoi Valley and farmland, checking out the very decent Kauri tree, descending into the cute historic village by the river. The local village store does great coffee!
Good trail shoes will be OK; track is a mix of farmland, bush trail, and a bit of road. Note, you may get wet feet! There’s minimal climbing on this route, but there are couple of steep descents.
