Join us for tramping around this stunning beach side Wenderholm Regional Park and Waiwera areas.
With high tide at around 11.16am, we'll do things a bit differently and do the stunning tracks up and over the point and down to the estuary. Expect to walk approximately 5 hours, with slippery surfaces, a few short but steep climbs, with the highest point being a 156 metres (an old farm airfield) and epic sea views! Well also do Vin's track loop giving us approximately 14kms. One track will be muddy, but it has interesting Maori history.
Probably towards the end of the tramp we'll check out the historic Couldrey House, dating back to early 1900's when it took 9 hours by ferry from town to Wenderholm! And for those interested, I'll show you some fairly rare, extremely large Oak trees, unlike the traditional Oaks most recognise.
* If the house is open, it's entry via $5 donation) http://couldreyhouse.org.nz/historic/
Trail or boots shoes would be fine for walking, but prepare for a bit of mud on the hill tracks.
Expect to see a number of our native bird species, Dotteralls, Oyster Catchers and more.
There are Kauri at Wenderholm, so PLEASE, PLEASE ensure all of your gear is absolutely clean before and fully cleaned when you get home!! And please bring a change of clean shoes for the drive back.
