Botanic Gardens/Totara Park – South Auckland

Depart: 8.30am The Strand, Takapuna
8.40am Greenlane
7.50am (SHARP) Massey University (will be picked up from Massey Uni - 4 places only in car).
We will start the walk at the Botanic Gardens and work our way through many spectacular, vibrant garden displays of many winter flowering trees, Camellia, Magnolia, Rhododendrons, all sort of bulbs and much more, including many art sculptures.
This will lead us into Totara Park, with gently trickling streams, gorgeous large old Totara trees which give the park its name and the odd hill, there should be something for everyone – the park boasts 64 hectares of beautiful gardens including 10 hectares of native forest and more than 10,000 plants from around the world.
We cover a number of tracks in Totara Park before returning to the bus.
Track Grade: Easy/Medium - some climbing including two stairways; 1 up, 1 down, with well-formed trails. Approximately 4-5 hours tramping. Good trail running shoes or boots would be ideal and a raincoat is a must.
Please ensure you have a change of footwear for the return bus trip and a bag for your dirty shoes/boots to ensure our bus remains clean and reduce work for others.
The onsite café will be open if you wish to indulge in a hot drink or treat.
