Pinnacles Hut: Sun/Mon Overnighter-Carpooling

COST:
Accommodation $30 each: Club will organise a bunk booking at Pinnacle Hut $30 ($25 to DOC plus $5 contingency/admin).
Travel $40 each: Paid to the driver/owner of the vehicle. The round trip is 300km.
Sunday 8th March and Monday 9th March: We depart from Como Street, heading for Kauaeranga Valley road-end on Sunday morning. The objective for the day will be to reach the Pinnacles Hut early afternoon. The hut has 85 bunks with mattresses, cooking stoves with gas, electric lighting, and a cold shower. Bring your own cutlery and pots. Then summit the famous Pinnacles, with their panoramic views from the East Coast to the Hauraki Plains. Enjoy a night in the hut and leisurely breakfast for those who don't want to enjoy the sunrise.
Next morning will be a leisurely stroll downhill, and drive back to Auckland, maybe via a café somewhere.
A: Medium(/Easy) Party: Web-Creek Track : Six km or about 3 hours. This is a reasonably constant uphill climb, and you will need to carry overnight gear. So while it is only 6km, and not difficult terrain, be aware that it will test those who have never carried an overnight pack. Call me to discuss if you have any concerns.
B: Medium/Fit Party: Billy Goat Track: About an hour extra - longer and steeper, and including a river crossing.
