This is an Easy/Medium Grade loop tramp/walk through regenerating native forest.  Approx 4-5 hours walking for the day.

This is a well maintained track, with mostly hard-packed gravel and a small amount of off-road surface. Mostly undulating but a couple of steep climbs, including one set of stairs.   If the weather has been fine, expect little or no mud; good trail-shoes are fine. Piha Beach & Waitakere Ranges (Small Group) - Epic deals and last minute discounts

Starting from the Arataki Visitors' Centre we drop down onto Pipeline Road and along the gravelled but steep Slip Track where we should see and hear tuis, wood pigeons and hopefully spot the tiny little grey warbler.  There should be good views of the Nihotupu Dam, the airport and Glenbrook Steel Mill along the way.

After lunch at the Arataki Visitors' Centre we head under the road and take in the extra loops with the Plant ID Loop walk and continue on the Upper and Lower loops to the Kauri Cathedral and back.

For those who choose not to do the extra loop tracks, they can stay and relax, check out the Visitors' Centre or enjoy an ice-cream.

Please check:  Trip Gradings, read any Additional event information (below), and do your own research if unsure about going.
